Description

Why should you not replace blown #44 globes with #44 globes, but intead change them to #47 globes? Simply, the #44 lamp draws 250 milliamps, while the #47 draws 150 milliamps.

Theoretically the #44 has a greater light output but also has a much higher current draw, and most people will NOT notice slightly dimmer incandescent GI lamps.

But, The extra current draw from the #44 globe is the reason that so many plugs and sockets in the GI (General Illumination) circuit fail, and burn. Especially In older pinballs.

Newer pinballs use LEDS now for this reason (and are designed to use them by having DC circuits).

Yes, you can change the Incandescent lamps to high-quality rectified LED lamps (make sure that if you get them, they are specifically made for Pinballs, and can handle use in an AC circuit) but remember, older pinballs were also designed for use with warm incandescents, not cool white LEDS, so while a lot of pins look great with LED's, some seem too "bright", it all comes down to taste.
